Vivacity Megamall confirms AED used, CPR performed after 47yo shopper collapsed

KUCHING, Sept 20: Vivacity Megamall has clarified that its Automated External Defibrillator (AED) was deployed and CPR performed after a 47-year-old woman collapsed at the shopping centre on Sept 16.

In a statement on Saturday (Sept 19), the mall management said two doctors and three nurses who happened to be at the mall stepped forward to assist within minutes of the incident.

“The medical professionals attending to the shopper performed CPR on her and AED was also used as part of the efforts to resuscitate her,” it said.

The management said the clarification was issued in response to information circulated online concerning the emergency response.

It confirmed that Vivacity Megamall has an AED available for emergency use and that the device was deployed during the incident.

The woman, who was shopping at Level 1 of the mall, suddenly collapsed and later died despite efforts to save her.

The mall management extended its condolences to the woman’s family and loved ones, while apologising for having to publicly disclose details surrounding the incident.

“Our intention is not to diminish their loss, but solely to address information that has been widely circulated publicly,” it said.

It also thanked the medical professionals who came forward to assist and appealed to the public to respect the family’s privacy during this difficult period. — DayakDaily
