KUCHING, June 12: Repair works on the 1,100mm main water pipeline at Batu 7, Jalan Miri-Bintulu, have been completed, with water supply expected to be restored in stages over the next 12 hours.

In a statement posted on Sarawak Water’s Facebook page at 8.55am today, Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Liwan Lagang said that the repair works were completed at approximately 8.30am today.

“At present, Sarawak Water is carrying out the system refilling process, stabilising the distribution network, and conducting flushing activities to ensure that water quality reaches a satisfactory level before supply is fully restored to consumers.

“Water supply is expected to be restored in stages over the next approximately 12 hours, as a large-scale distribution system requires time to be refilled, stabilised, and brought back to normal operating pressure,” he said.

At the same time, he expressed his appreciation to Sarawak Water and all relevant agencies as well as parties for their cooperation and commitment throughout the implementation of the repair works.

“On behalf of the Sarawak Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication, I would also like to extend my appreciation to all consumers in the Miri Division for their patience, cooperation, and support throughout this period of water supply disruption.

“It is our hope that the water supply restoration process will proceed smoothly and that all affected areas will receive their normal water supply again as soon as possible,” he said.

On June 6, it was reported that a 36-hour water supply disruption was scheduled to take place at Batu 7, Jalan Miri-Bintulu, starting June 10 after a leak was detected in the main pipeline system.

Sarawak Water stated that repair works commenced at 5pm on June 10, and were scheduled to be completed by 8pm on June 11 (Thursday).

It explained that the water disruption is expected to last 24 hours, followed by a 12-hour system recovery period, bringing the total restoration time to approximately 36 hours.

However, in a statement posted on Thursday, the utility provider announced that the repair works on the 1,100mm main water pipeline would be completed by 10pm instead due to heavy rainfall at the worksite that morning. — DayakDaily
