KUCHING, Mar 6: Knowledge and integrity go hand in hand, as having knowledge should be accompanied by honesty, strong moral principles, and ethical behaviour.

According to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, knowledge and integrity must co-exist as together, it becomes the foundation to develop humanity.

“It is important for us to teach our children to be knowledgeable. However, knowledge as a human trait must be combined with integrity,” he said while attending the Sarawak-level Nuzul Al-Quran celebration at the Masjid Bandar Sri Aman today, which was live streamed via the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).

He further mentioned that education is stressed in Sarawak, which was what prompted the State government to offer free tertiary education to Sarawakian students studying in State-owned institutions.

With this, he also urged Muslims to seize the opportunity to obtain free education and further their studies to increase their knowledge so that they could contribute to society and better their circumstances.

“Today, many of the challenges faced by society stem from a lack of integrity. If we refer to the teachings of the Quran and maintain good intentions, we can continue to develop our State.

“As we go through this stage of transformation, we aim to rise to a higher level. We want to become creators, not merely followers, in the fields of knowledge that we pursue.

“Hopefully, in Sarawak, through our unity and knowledge, we can translate this knowledge into meaningful contributions toward the development of humankind,” he said.

The event saw the attendance of Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.

Also present were the daughter of the Sarawak Premier, Dayang Norjihan Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg; Speaker of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar; Sarawak Minister for Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah; Sarawak Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki; Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, DBKU, and Islamic Affairs), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi; Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, Datuk Ir Aidel Lariwoo; and president of the Sarawak Islamic Council Datuk Misnu Taha.

According to a press kit, about 300 dignitaries were in attendance, including ministers, deputy ministers, senior State officials, and heads of State and federal departments.

In addition, around 1,200 guests comprising community leaders, representatives of mosques and surau, government staff, members of organisations, security personnel, and the public were also invited to the celebration. — DayakDaily
