KUCHING, June 18: The Ministry of Works’ policy paper on the Road Asset Data Declaration (RDD) was presented at the National Statistics and Data Council (NSDC) Meeting as part of efforts to strengthen a more integrated, standardised and evidence-based national road asset management system.

Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the initiative is a proactive step towards enhancing Malaysia’s road infrastructure governance through the development of a comprehensive data ecosystem supported by analytical platforms and a national data repository.

The meeting, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof, saw the Ministry of Works table the RDD proposal, which aims to improve the way road asset data is collected, managed and utilised nationwide.

According to Nanta, the RDD initiative will serve as a key foundation for transforming road asset management by enabling more proactive maintenance planning, reducing duplication of work, accelerating repair responses, optimising public expenditure and improving infrastructure safety standards.

He said the shift towards a more integrated system will allow Malaysia to move from a reactive maintenance approach to a predictive maintenance model, supported by real-time and verified data rather than relying solely on public complaints.

“This is in line with the MYJalan aspiration, ensuring that every public complaint is heard, every ringgit is spent responsibly, and every decision is made for the safety and well-being of the people,” he said in a post shared on his social media today.

Nanta added that the strengthening of national road data coordination would enhance decision-making across agencies and support more efficient and transparent infrastructure planning.

“Every piece of data carries meaning. Every decision has an impact. Every action is for the people,” he said. — DayakDaily
