KUCHING (Feb 13): The federal Ministry of Youth and Sports will expand its youth engagement in Sarawak with the launch of its inaugural ‘Jelajah Di Borneo’ programme this year.

The initiative is a rebranding and adaptation of the ministry’s K-JOM (Kembara Jumpa Orang Muda) programme.

Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Mordi Bimol said the programme aims to bring federal initiatives directly to rural youth in Sarawak and Sabah, tailoring activities to local needs and ensuring support reaches underserved communities.

“That is why it’s important for me to be here today, to seek your blessings for a tour across Sarawak and Sabah. I did Sabah last week,” he told a press conference following his courtesy visit to Sarawak Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah here.

Mordi explained that Jelajah Di Borneo was adapted from K-JOM to better align with the specific requirements of youth in Sabah and Sarawak.

“After joining the ministry, I planned to tweak it to suit the preferences of Sabah and Sarawak. We will adapt K-JOM to engage and unite youth in rural areas, so our programmes are in sync,” he said.

He added that while the programme framework is still being finalised, the primary focus will remain on rural outreach.

“Many initiatives under the ministry sometimes do not reach rural communities.

“In Sarawak, the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development focuses on rural entrepreneurs — not merely providing jobs, but helping them grow their businesses.

“That is why my focus will be on rural areas in Sabah and Sarawak, tweaking the programme to fit the needs of youth in these communities,” Mordi said.
