KUCHING (Oct 21): Some 1,200 scouts from the Scouts Association of Malaysia turned up for the annual Jamboree on the Air (Jota) and Jamboree on the Internet (Joti) here on Saturday.

The global event was meant to champion global friendship and peace among scouts across the globe, said a press release.

National Deputy Chief Scout Commissioner Dr Mohammed Mukhyuddin Sarwani said millions of scouts from more than 170 countries worldwide take part in the programme every October.

He said for this year, the Scouts Association of Malaysia had assigned Sarawak as one of the locations in the country to organise the national event.

Mukhyuddin, who represented the National Chief Scout of Malaysia to grace the event held at the Scout Headquarters at Jalan Batu Lintang, was impressed by the large turnout.

“The big turnout is the manifestation all scouters and scouts showing keen interest here.

“I hope all of you will make the best use of the opportunities offered by the activities lined up whether by the programme team or the training team,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chief Scout Commissioner of Sarawak Capt Zainuddin Hamdan expressed his optimism that the activities would provide great exposure to the scouts in helping them to develop their character, knowledge and skills.
