SIBU (Sept 23): Ten families affected by the fire in Kampung Hilir here on Sunday received assistance from the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of SK Abang Ali today.

PTA president Datuk Mohamad Yusnar Matalie said the aid was specifically for 13 children who are students of SK Abang Ali.

“We would like to express our deepest sympathies and condolences from all members of SK Abang Ali to the fire victims, especially the children of SK Abang Ali.

“There are 13 students affected and we have taken the initiative to provide initial assistance of RM500 for each family and an additional RM200 for each student who is a member of the cooperatives,” he told reporters after distributing the aid to the families of affected students.

Also present was SK Abang Ali Sibu headmaster Hamdi Nadji.

Yusnar said efforts to alleviate the students’ burden would continue with the provision of school uniforms, shoes, bags and stationery.

In addition, he urged the public to come forward to help lighten the burden of fire victims during this time by offering their assistance.

“Specifically, alumni of SK Abang Ali who wish to contribute can do so directly to the school and we will channel the contributions to those affected,” he said.

The fire destroyed 17 houses and left 156 people homeless.
