KUCHING, July 8: Ten neighbourhood park projects in Batu Kawa involving a total allocation of RM3.82 million are currently under construction and are expected to be completed by February next year, providing residents with greater access to recreational and sports facilities close to their homes.

Deputy Premier and Batu Kawa assemblyman Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said the projects, implemented under the Sarawak government’s Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), are part of ongoing efforts to enhance recreational infrastructure throughout the constituency and promote healthier lifestyles among residents.

The projects, which commenced in April this year, are being implemented by the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) and include the construction of new parks as well as upgrading and maintenance works at existing facilities.

According to Dr Sim, who is also the Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, all projects are progressing according to schedule.

“The aim is to ensure residents have convenient access to quality spaces for exercise, leisure and recreational activities within their own communities,” he said in a statement today.

The 10 residential areas benefiting from the projects are Taman Genesis, Taman Moyan, Taman Highfield, Taman Desa Wira, Jalan Carina Estate, Jalan Batu Kawa Lorong 3, Taman Phoenix Batu Kawa, Jalan RPR Batu Kawa, Taman San Chin and Taman Vision Land.

In addition to the neighbourhood parks, Dr Sim announced that a new community recreational park will be developed at the General Operations Force (GOF) Batu Kawa along Jalan Field Force to cater to the growing population in the surrounding area.

“MPP is currently finalising the necessary documentation and procedures for the project, which has been allocated a ceiling fund of RM900,000. The project is expected to be opened for public tender in the near future,” he said.

Dr Sim noted that the Batu Kawa Riverbank Park has received an encouraging response from the local community since its completion, underscoring the importance of public recreational spaces and the demand for such facilities.

“Although the riverbank park offers a wide range of recreational facilities for people of all ages, we should also develop local community facilities that are just steps away from your home,” he said.

He added that the continued development of neighbourhood parks and community recreational spaces reflects the government’s commitment to improving the quality of life for Batu Kawa residents while encouraging greater community engagement and healthier living. — DayakDaily
