KUCHING (July 20): Thirteen athletes under the Wushu Federation of Sarawak (WFS) development programme are currently attending the national backup junior camp at Dewan Chin Woo in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan from July 19-24.
They are Hong Wu Kang, Cherlyn Hong Jia Hui, Serene Teo Xin Ling, Ryan Yu Chee Sheng, Dexter Thian Shyan Khai, Elson Chong Jia Bao and Einstein Chin Yee Ge (Kuching Elite Wushu Club), Amber Tan Ling Xin, Angus Tan Yan Hong, Ashley Yong and Morven Phua Yan Hao (Jun Lun Wushu Professional Training Centre), John Phang and Jocelyn Ha Chen Xi (Jun Wei Bintulu Wushu Club).
The athletes are accompanied by WFS secretary Jong Chin Wei and state coach Mohd Asri Abdul Wahab.
The state junior athletes were selected by Wushu Federation of Malaysia (WFM) for the week-long camp based on their excellent performances at the KPM Junior Wushu Championships, Karnival Bakat Kebangsaan Wushu Championships and Sarawak Wushu Championships.
“This is the first Junior Backup Camp organised by WFM with the full support from the Ministry of Youth and Sports with the main objective of recruiting new athletes for the national junior backup squad for 2025.
“We do hope that more athletes from Sarawak will be selected into the National Junior Backup Team, having opportunity to train under international standard coaches, win glory for Malaysia and Sarawak in major championships such as SEA Games, Asian Games, World Junior Wushu Championship and so forth,” Jong, who is Jun Wei Bintulu Wushu Club president, told The Borneo Post.
