150 students in Sri Aman join Petronas’ powering knowledge event

KUCHING (Aug 8): Around 150 students from five secondary schools in Sri Aman participated in the Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) Powering Knowledge – Discover Petronas @ Schools (DPS) programme in the division yesterday.

Held in conjunction with the national oil and gas company’s 50th anniversary celebration, various activities were organised for the participants from SMK Sri Aman, SMK Lingga, SMK St Luke, SMK Melugu and SMK Simanggang.

These included a motivational sharing session by Petronas senior general manager (Malaysia Petroleum Management) Anuar Ismail, who coincidently hails from Sri Aman.

Petronas in a news release said the students also took part in the Petronas Powering Knowledge session and interactive Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) activities by Petrosains.

The programme is part of Petronas’ initiatives to promote STEM-related activities amongst students in Sarawak, together with the Sarawak Education Department (JPNS).

Jointly organised by Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd-Sarawak Asset in collaboration with the Petronas group, it also aims to create meaningful as well as impactful individual andsocietal growth through education.

Education, Innovation and Talent Development Deputy Minister Datuk Francis Harden Hollis officiated at the event.

Also present were Sri Aman deputy resident officer Charlie Keling, Sri Aman District Education Office deputy head Nancy Nosiew, Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd-Sarawak Asset senior general manager Noriani @ YatiMohamad, Petronas senior general manager (Group Human Resource Management) Abdullah Monshie, as well as two Petronas alumni from Sri Aman, Yeo Sang Chiew and Malong Libu.

Earlier, Petronas inaugurated its 50th anniversary celebration here with the ignition of a commemorative torch, which is part of the nationwide ‘Journey of the Twin Torches’ tour, symbolising the continued legacy and commitment in building talents for the progress of the industry and nation.

The torch was handed over by Anuar to Petronas senior general manager (Project Delivery and Technology) Abang Jimmy Abang Mordian, who will bring it to Kuching tomorrow (Aug 9).

The celebration is a tribute to the past, present and future of Petronas, celebrating its evolution into a leading, global energy player.

The event showcases Petronas’ achievements and vision in the past 50 years, emphasising its unity, strength and commitment to excellence, innovation and sustainability.

It honours the legacy of its trailblazers as well as aims to inspire current and future generations to continue making a positive impact on the nation and the world.
