SIBU (July 18): A total of 169 houses at the Pelawan constituency here have undergone repair works costing RM2.5 million, funded under the Minor Rural Project – Sarawak House Improvement for the Poor Programme (MRP- PPRMS).
Pelawan assemblyman Datuk Michael Tiang said the state government’s grant had benefitted poor families and targeted groups, of which most recipients had the roof and kitchen of their house repaired.
“Out of the total, RM999,000 was spent to repair 68 houses in 2022. In 2023, the amount was RM996,000 to repair 67 houses. This year, we have spent RM506,000 to repair 34 houses under the first phase of the MRP-PPRMS project.
“Another 30 plus houses will be repaired under the second phase this year,” he told reporters when met during his visit to a beneficiary’s house at Lorong Indah 3 here yesterday.
The Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government extended his gratitude to the state government and Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg for the funding, and advised constituents in Pelawan to contact his service centre if they needed such assistance.
“We will make arrangements and put you on our waiting list because we need to clear the list of those who have submitted their applications,” he said.
