KUCHING: A team of dedicated scouts from Sarawak left for the 12th National Jamboree, Scouts of China (Taiwan) on Tuesday (July 9).
The contingent comprises 17 members – seven scouts, five rovers, three scout leaders and two council members. The jamboree is from July 10 to 16 at Tsou-Ma-Lai Farm, Tainan, Taiwan.
“The National Jamboree is a great opportunity for our scouts to engage with peers from diverse cultural backgrounds, fostering international friendship and understanding,” according to a statement on Friday (July 12).
The week-long event will provide a platform for young scouts to participate in various educational and interactive activities designed to enhance their skills and knowledge.
“The Sarawak contingent has made meticulous preparation for this event over the past few months.
“Their participation has been made possible by the unwavering support and sponsorship from the Sarawak Scout Council, Sarawak Scout Foundation and the Kuching City Scout Council, which have been instrumental in facilitating this opportunity for our young scouts.”
Prior to that, on July 6 at the Sarawak Scout Headquarters, Deputy Chief Scout Commissioner, John Lim Boon Beng, on behalf of the Sarawak Chief Scout Commissioner, Captain Zainuddin Tan Sri Hamdan, handed over the Sarawak Scout flag to the Sarawak Contingent Leader, Chang Wee Khee.
This ceremony was accompanied by the International Commissioner of Sarawak, Iu Cho Heng, symbolising the official send-off and the collective hopes and expectations of the Sarawak scouting community.
This time around, Juma’at Ibrahim, the Vice President of the Sarawak Scout Council who is the National Scout Foundation Chairman is also part of the State and National contingents.
On July 9, the Sarawak contingent departed from Kuching International Airport to embark on their journey to the Jamboree.
“They are set to showcase the rich culture, teamwork, and resilience of Sarawak scouts, making us proud on an international stage.”
