KUCHING, Aug 16: The Magistrate’s Court here today sentenced two men to five months in prison each after they pleaded guilty to possessing a stolen cash register taken from a 24-hour convenience store.
Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali handed down the sentence to Izwannizam Bujang, 38, and Larry Luhat, 25, following their guilty plea under Section 411 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same code.
According to the case facts, the incident occurred on July 21, 2024, at around 1.47pm when two masked men entered the convenience store while the cashier was on duty.
One of the men brandished a machete at the cashier while the other took the cash register from the counter.
The suspects then fled the scene in a car without a license plate, with the estimated loss amounting to approximately RM236.
The cashier immediately lodged a police report, which led to the arrest of Izwannizam and Larry at a house on Jalan Tondong Desa Moyan, Batu Kawa, around 10.40am on August 10, 2024.
During the arrest, police recovered the cash register that had been stolen on July 21, 2024.
Investigations revealed that Izwannizam and Larry were unable to provide a satisfactory explanation to the police on how they came into possession of the stolen cash register.
The cashier later identified and confirmed that the recovered cash register was the one taken by the two unidentified men.
ASP Arman Ibrahim prosecuted the case, while Izwannizam and Larry were unrepresented in court. — DayakDaily
