MIRI (Oct 29): This year has been a triumphant year for Miri City Council (MCC) as it has secured three significant achievements that underscore its leadership in urban innovation, sustainable development and public service.

Mayor Adam Yii said this is also the third consecutive year that MCC has achieved an exceptional 5-star rating on the Local Authority Star Rating System (SPB-PBT), making it the first council in the country to sustain the top rating for three years.

“This achievement highlights the council’s steadfast commitment to high standards in public service and its successful completion of transformation targets that prioritise sustainable urban development,” he told a press conference yesterday.

Additionally, he said the council earned the Silver Award in the Human-Centricity category at the Seoul Smart City Prize 2024.

The category, he explained, recognises exemplary city governments for their policies, services and solutions that prioritise social inclusion.

“This recognition highlights Miri’s ongoing commitment to creating smart city solutions that not only leverage technology, but also focus on inclusivity, accessibility and digital innovation to address the unique needs of its community.

“This award is a testament to Miri’s efforts to bridge the digital divide and implement smart city projects that cater for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, youth and differently-abled individuals.”

Adding to its accolades, the council’s Sirius Prime, an application used by the council to collect assessment rates, had emerged as the champion of the inaugural Sarawak Civil Service SCS-NEXT 2024 Award, for Innovation in Public Service Sustainability.

The award-winning project, focused on addressing challenges in the collection of assessment rates, reflects Miri’s innovation approach to public service sustainability, he said.
