KUCHING, 16 Oct: A total of 22 food premises under the administration of Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) have been upgraded from Grade B to Grade A as a result of improved sanitation level.
MPP Chairman Tan Kai said a total of 553 food premises were registered in the council's administrative area, with 329 premises gaining Grade A, 193 Grade B premises and four Grade C premises, while 27 new premises have not yet been graded.
"We hope that more Grade B premises can improve the level of cleanliness to reach Grade A, while Grade A premises need to maintain established standards", he said.
He said this at the Concerto of Certificates of Honour and Willingness for the Pure Food Premis Competition as well as the MPP 2026 Clean Towels, Charms and Aromas (BMW) Competition here today.
For the BMW Toilet Competition, a total of 19 premises participated in three categories, namely petrol stations, shopping malls and tasting areas, with 17 premises earning a three-star rating and above.
Tan said the cleanliness of food premises and toilets is important to maintain public health, boost customer confidence and preserve Padawan's image as a tourist destination.
He also emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness before and during the Padawan Discovery Festival on 2 to 6 October, which received visits from MPP Friendship Town Representatives from overseas.
"MPP will continue monitoring, guidance and efforts to raise public awareness of the importance of hygiene for public welfare and local tourism development", he said.
