263 from Kpg Pulo Ulu receive over RM75.7 mln in land compensation for Darul Hana project

KUCHING (Oct 14): Land compensation totalling more than RM75.7 million was handed over today to 263 individuals from Kampung Pulo Ulo whose land were acquired for the Darul Hana development project.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who officiated at the ceremony, said part of the compensation money will be utilised by the recipients to pay for their new houses in Darul Hana.

“The prices of the houses are quite special. For single storey unit, it is about RM98,500, semi-detached RM205,000, detached double storey RM310,000 per unit. The government is also allocating a lot of funds to implement this project so that the people there can live comfortably,” he said at a press conference after the presentation of compensation cheques, land titles and Darul Hana house keys to the recipients at Wisma Sabati.

According to Awang Tengah, a total 564 houses have already been completed at Darul Hana, of which 318 houses have been allocated to households from the affected villages while 94 are still under construction.

He said 60 heads of households from Kampung Pulo Ulu received their house keys yesterday, and 114 landowners received land titles issued under Section 18 of the Sarawak Land Code.

“The development of Darul Hana has long been planned by the government. Syukur Alhamdulilah, it can be implemented. We will strive to continue this project towards the next phases of development,” he said.

He added the development of Darul Hana does not only involve building houses, but also involves providing facilities for sports and recreation, learning and training, and religious activities.

“We would like to thank the villagers and community leaders who have given their cooperation, and also the work done by the implementing agencies,” added Awang Tengah, who is also Natural Resources and Urban Development Second Minister

Meanwhile, a press release issued for the ceremony explained Darul Hana is a pioneer urban renewal project being actively implemented by the Sarawak government under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development (MUDeNR) with the Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) as the implementing agency.

The development of Darul Hana involves 13 traditional villages with an area of ​​722 acres close to the Sungai Sarawak, stretching from Kampung Boyan to Kampung Bintawa.

It is an effort by the Sarawak government to develop the traditional villages into a modern village in Kuching City that is more orderly while maintaining the villages’ heritage.

Awang Tengah, in a statement issued after the ceremony, said a football field in Block 1A of Darul Hana was recently completed, while a smart school project SK Pulo Baru is being developed at a cost of RM45.6 million with full funding by the Sarawak government and is expected to be completed next year.

“An underpass construction project to connect Darul Hana residents to social facilities such as mosques and neighbourhood centres has already started and is expected to be completed in 2026 while construction of the Malay Heritage Museum on a 9.1-acre site is expected to start in the 13th Malaysia Plan,” he added.
