KUCHING, June 27: A 26-year-old man was killed while another was injured in a road accident involving a lorry carrying frozen fish and a Perodua Ativa at a P-turn area in Jelukong along the Pan Borneo Highway late last night.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Betong responded to the emergency at 10pm on Friday (June 26), with a team of firefighters led by operation commander PBK II Mosihi Buang immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed that the collision involved the lorry and the sport utility vehicle (SUV), with two male occupants affected by the crash.
One of the victims had already been extricated by members of the public before firefighters arrived. However, the second victim was found trapped in the front left passenger seat of the vehicle.
Firefighters immediately carried out rescue operations using specialised equipment to free the trapped victim. The victim was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene before the arrival of the rescue team.
The deceased was identified as a 26-year-old man, while the other victim, aged 24, sustained injuries.
After the extrication process, the victim’s body was handed over to paramedics from the Ministry of Health and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for further action and investigation.
Firefighters also conducted cleanup works at the accident site before concluding the operation at 10.47pm after ensuring the area was safe. — DayakDaily
