KUCHING (Oct 3): A total of 279 graduates from Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus (Swinburne Sarawak) received their scrolls at the university’s graduation ceremony here today.
Swinburne University of Technology vice-chancellor and president Prof Pascale Quester presented the awards.
She said Swinburne is proud to be the prototype of a new and different university, that is truly of technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
“Swinburne may be a young university, but we are solidifying our position on the world stage as a leading global institution of higher education.
“Nothing demonstrates this better than our spectacular rise in academic global rankings,” she said.
Swinburne is ranked in the Top 250 of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings as well as 24th in the world this year for universities under 50 years old.
“We hope that Swinburne has been a place for you to question, discover, establish truth, ignite passion, and experience light bulb moments and life-changing interactions.
“Now, another adventure awaits you. Your Swinburne credentials are your ticket to an exciting future.
“You now have the opportunity to help lead Sarawak into a new society where the gains of the technology age are harnessed and unleashed to solve the challenges we face,” she said.
Of the 279 graduates, 247 were undergraduates, of whom 127 graduated with degrees in business, 50 in computing, 47 in engineering, 15 in design, five in science, and three in media and communication.
Also receiving their scrolls were five Diploma of Business Management graduates, with one receiving a Graduate Diploma of Business Administration (International) and another a Graduate Certificate of Business Administration (International).
A total of 18 students graduated with master’s degrees, with seven awarded the Master of Business Administration (International), three the Master of Construction Management Practice, three with Master of Engineering (Research), and one each with Master of Information Technology, Master of Information and Communication Technologies (Research), Master of Science (Research), Master of Arts (Tesol), and Master of Construction Management.
In addition, seven Doctor of Philosophy graduates received their awards in the fields of engineering, business, and science.
The ceremony celebrated graduates not only from Malaysia but also from Bangladesh, Brunei, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Germany, India, Indonesia, Mauritius, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Yemen, and Zimbabwe.
