MIRI: In a significant initiative to support education in rural areas, Yayasan Sarawak recently distributed 300 school uniform aid vouchers, totalling RM60,000, to the Education Offices of Miri, Subis, and Baram for schools in Beluru here.
The vouchers, each valued at RM200, are aimed at easing the financial burden of families in purchasing school uniforms. The allocation was divided among the districts, with Miri receiving 100 vouchers, Subis 50, and Baram the largest share at 150.
This distribution was overseen by the acting Beluru District Officer Charles Aloysius Lisu.
The eligibility criteria for the voucher recipients include being registered in the e-kasih programme, First Year and Form One students, those with special needs, and Penan students, as verified by the District Focus Group Committee.
Among those present were Tinjar Subdistrict Office Administrative Officer Deo Keneth Dibek, Beluru District Office Administrative Officer Esther Maideri, Miri PPD representative Then Fen Nee, Subis PPD representative Allen Shin Kwong Sim and Baram PPD representative Parish Lawai.
