PADAWAN, July 9: A family was plunged into grief after their eldest son failed to return home from work and was later found dead near a rest hut at the Temurang Visitor Information Centre, Jalan Puncak Borneo Heights, yesterday (July 8).

Padawan District Police chief Superintendent Barry William said the 30-year-old man, identified as Anders Willy Wong, was discovered lying on the bamboo floor of the hut’s veranda by members of the public, who later alerted the police.

“The case has been classified as sudden death (SDR), and investigations are still ongoing,” he said in a statement quoted in a report by TVS.

Barry said the victim was pronounced dead at 11.24am by medical personnel from Bunuk Health Clinic, who conducted an examination at the scene.

Initial investigations found that the victim was fully dressed when he was discovered. His motorcycle was parked nearby in good condition, while his bag was found beside him.

Barry said Wong had been working as an e-hailing rider for about four years and was the eldest child in his family.

He added that the victim’s father told police that Wong had left home at around 9am on July 8 to go to work but did not return. The family later learned of his death after receiving information from members of the public regarding the discovery.

The body was subsequently sent to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for a post-mortem examination.

Barry urged the public not to speculate on the circumstances surrounding the death and to wait for the post-mortem results before drawing any conclusions. — DayakDaily
