KUCHING (May 24): The Magistrates’ Court here today placed a 37-year-old woman on a six-month bond to keep the peace of RM500 for slapping her friend’s cheek at a nightclub.

Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan convicted Chin Choon Lian on her own guilty plea to a charge framed under Section 67 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Based on the facts of the case, at around 3.30am on May 13, the 27-year-old victim from Penang was drinking with a friend at a Jalan Sekama nightclub here when she was approached by Chin.

Chin suddenly slapped the victim’s cheek and scolded her, prompting the victim to lodge a police report.

The victim also sought treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital and it was reported the slap caused swelling on her left cheek.

The investigation found Chin and the victim were friends but did not have a close relationship.

They had a verbal argument because Chin was dissatisfied with the victim, who is believed to have criticised Chin behind her back.

To prevent a recurrence of the same incident, Chin was ordered to complete the six-month peace bond.

Insp Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted the case while Chin did not have legal representation.
