KUCHING, Oct 22: The ground floor stalls at 3rd Mile Market will remain closed as upgrading works continue, specifically the installation of an anti-slip epoxy flake coating on the flooring.

According to a press statement, the initiative is part of a broader improvement project aimed at enhancing safety for both visitors and vendors.

The new coating is designed to provide extra grip, significantly mitigating the risk of slips and falls, especially in areas susceptible to wet conditions.

“A dark colour was chosen for the anti-slip epoxy flake coating to help conceal any scratches or dirt that may accumulate over time due to heavy public use.

“This ensures the market floor will maintain a clean and presentable appearance, even with regular wear and tear,” the statement read.

On Oct 21, Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Tan Kai visited the site to assess the progress of the anti-slip epoxy application.

He emphasised the council’s commitment to prioritising safety within the market, noting that the upgrade is a crucial step toward creating a safer environment for all.

The MPP is actively monitoring the ongoing work to ensure its timely completion and adherence to high standards.

The goal is to allow hawkers and the public to resume their regular business and grocery shopping activities as soon as possible.

In addition to the flooring upgrade, the 3rd Mile Market improvement project includes several other enhancements. These encompass the installation of a rainwater harvesting system, the construction of staircase awnings, the replacement of polycarbonate upper roofing, painting of the first-floor ceiling and parapet wall, and waterproofing of both upper and lower roof slabs.
