SIBU (July 14): Sixty-three people were left homeless after a fire destroyed a four-block workers’ quarters at Jalan Pantai Tanjung Batu in Bintulu Sunday evening.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said no injuries were reported among the occupants in the incident.
“The wooden quarters, comprising 42 units, was completely razed. The victims comprise 48 male adults, 10 female adults, four male children and one female child,” it said in a statement.
It added that personnel from the Bintulu and Kidurong fire stations were rushed to the location following a distress call received at 6.14pm.
As of press time, firefighters are still carrying out overhaul works at the site.
The cause of the fire and losses are still under investigation.
