MARUDI, Sept. 21: A 10-door long house in Long Jekitan, Ulu Baram, was destroyed in a reported fire on Saturday with an estimated 79 residents affected, but no fatalities or injuries were reported.
According to the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Sarawak's Operations Movement Centre (PGO), it received information about the incident at 2.50 pm.
"Given that the scene was located about 230 kilometers from Marudi BBP and the journey through Balak trail took about eight hours, the team decided to move to the site the next day.
"The investigation team from the Miri Zone 6 Office headed by PgKB II Awangku Hazmin Awang Zainal along with BBP member Marudi and a member of PDRM Long Lama left at 6 am, 20 September.
Upon arrival at the scene, the team conducted a search around the fire area to ensure no further cause of fire or sustained danger.
An inquiry meeting was also held with the concerned parties at 3.10 pm, as well as an investigation was continued to identify the cause and factors of the fire.
The operation was controlled at 3.10 pm and ended at 4.30 pm.
