SIBU: A total of 90 people attended a Toastmasters leadership course held at the Sibu United Chinese Association (UCA) hall here yesterday.
The one-day course declared open by Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng was organised by Toastmaster International District 87, Division S.
Chieng highlighted that the art of speech is not just an exchange of language but also an exchange of feelings between individuals.
He said people who do not understand this art, put interests and emotions first, their words are like ‘ knives that pierce’, hurt others and even hurt themselves.
“On the contrary, people who understand this art, put feelings first, their words are like a rose, fragrant and refreshing, which brings the distance between hearts closer.
“Speaking positive and encouraging words, with the purpose of conveying positive emotions and information will make people feel warm and motivated.
“A person who makes others happy with his words will surely be liked by others,” he said.
