MIRI, Sept. 19: The culture of appreciation for education that Chinese people have practiced since ancient times must be preserved and passed on to future generations to ensure the importance of education remains a core value in society.
Sarawak Transport Minister, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said that emphasis on education is among the values that have long been part of the culture of Chinese society and contribute to the achievements of today's generation.
According to him, previous generations were willing to sacrifice and strive to ensure that children get a good education, including developing schools and providing educational facilities in the community.
"The cultural value of Chinese society has always been the emphasis on education. Past generations have sacrificed a lot and worked hard to ensure that children get an education, and this value we must continue to pass on to the next generation", he said speaking at the Mid-Autumn Festival Dinner Meeting and Presentation of Education Incentive 2026 of Vui Neng Division Miri Association here last night.
He added that the Free Higher Education Scheme (FTES) opportunities provided by the Sarawak government also provide space for eligible Sarawak children to continue their education without incurring tuition fees.
"With free education opportunities, qualified Sarawak children have the opportunity to continue their studies, while parents can reduce financial burdens in financing their children's education", he added.
He explained that the ongoing efforts in strengthening education are essential to ensure that younger generations have opportunities to improve their standard of living and contribute to Sarawak's development. - TVS
