MARUDI, Sept. 14: A man dies after being hit by a car in Long Seridan yesterday.
Victim, Mancha Lingan, 40, was confirmed dead by Medical Officer from Long Seridan Health Clinic before the bomb squad arrived.
According to the Operations Movement Centre (PGO) of Bomb and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM) Sarawak, it received an emergency call at 2.08 pm.
However, the Operations Output Team (PKO) from Marudi Bombing and Rescue Hall (BBP) arrived on site at 9.49 pm after travelling 261 kilometres.
"The journey took a long time due to geographical factors and the slippery, crevice conditions of the road.
"The team will also have to cross the river before continuing a land journey of about four kilometers to the scene", according to the statement.
Upon arrival at the scene, the team found the victim trapped beneath a cliff.
Operations Commander, PBK I Erec Unyi then ordered members to provide rescue equipment including Power Unit Rescue Tools and two airbags.
Early attempts to remove the victim faced difficulties due to their position trapped underneath the impact.
The operation was then continued with the help of the Emergency Police and a company mechanic.
The mechanic opened and cut the chain of the steering wheel using an oxygen gas cutter to facilitate the process of removing prey.
The victim was successfully removed before being handed over to the police for further action.
The operation ended at 11:22 p.m. with the four-man force of Marudi BBP using a utility vehicle.
