A quick public action managed to contain the cafe fire in Concrete

Wednesday, Oct. 2: Rapid public action using three fire extinguishers successfully contained a fire at Friend Cafe, Bald Concrete New Township, this morning.

According to the Centre for Operational Movements (PGO) of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Sarawak, the fire occurred at around 8.27 am and involved parts of the icebox equipment as well as electrical wiring systems on the premises.

"A team from the Bombing and Rescue Department (BBP) Betong arrived on site at 8:29 a.m., about two minutes after receiving an emergency call.

"Examinations found that fires involved about 30 percent of the 50 x 70 square foot facility", the statement said.

The firefighters then carried out the extinguishing work using an auxiliary channel starting through the engine tank pump to ensure that the fires were completely extinguished and no fuel was left.

The fire was brought under control at 8.52am before the operation ended at 9.50am after testing found it safe.

No fatalities or injuries were reported in the incident.

The operation involved seven members of the BBP Betong along with an FRT engine and an EMRS, while PDRM was also present with a force of five. -TVS
