Accident claims life of elderly man

KUCHING : A car accident along Batu Kawa Road resulted in the death of a 71-year-old man last night.

The State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Operations Centre said it received a distress call pertaining to the incident at 10.35pm.

Batu Lintang fire station responded swiftly and was promptly deployed to the scene.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a sedan-type vehicle overturned, with one victim outside the vehicle and another trapped inside unconscious.

Bomba used rescue tools and a stretcher to extract the trapped victim out from the vehicle.

However, the victim identified as Ateng Jeros, 71, was pronounced dead by medical officers on site.

Meanwhile, the other victim, a female, sustained light injuries and was sent to the hospital for further medical treatment.

After ensuring the area was safe for road users, the firefighters returned back to their station.

The operation ended at 11.22pm.
