TATAU (July 29): Infrastructure development in the Kakus state constituency will be accelerated with allocations from the Mid Rajang Regional Development Agency (MiRRDA) and the Bintulu Rural Development Agency (Birdcom), said Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai.
The Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department said infrastructure development is vital in the constituency.
“With allocations from MiRRDA and Birdcom, the provision of basic amenities such as roads, electricity, and water supply in the Kakus area will be accelerated.
“These allocations will expedite the development of our area,” he said during an event with the people at Rumah Gerry, Ulu Mejau, Tatau yesterday.
The Kakus assemblyman said the Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda) has proposed constructing roads at Muput/Nanga Tau and Ulu Takan.
He also outlined the ambitious goals for Sarawak to become a high-income state with a household income of RM15,000 by 2030.
He stressed the critical role of education in achieving these targets, announcing the government’s plan to provide free education to Sarawakian children at government-owned universities starting 2026.
“It is important for students to choose fields with ample job opportunities, such as skills-based and Tvet programmes.
“In Samalaju alone, the newly-inaugurated methanol plant by the Premier (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg) aims to create over 15,000 job opportunities,” he said.
Sikie also acknowledged the success of oil palm cultivation in boosting local incomes and encouraged the exploration of other high-demand crops.
He also pledged RM20,000 to the Rumah Gerry village security and development committee.
