An Agoda infographic shows Kuching listed in third place for the cheapest average accommodation rates across Asian markets.

KUCHING (Aug 13): Kuching remains the most affordable tourist destination in Malaysia, said digital travel platform Agoda.

In its latest list of the most affordable destinations for travellers, Agoda said Kuching offers the country’s most competitive room rates for August to September.

“In Malaysia, Kuching is the most affordable tourist destination, with an average room rate of RM250 based on booking data between June 15 and July 7, 2024.

“The state capital and largest city in Sarawak retains its ranking as the cheapest destination, having also clinched the title in the previous ranking in April,” Agoda said in a statement.

However, based on the list of the destinations with the cheapest average accommodation rates for Aug 15 to Sept 30 across nine Asian markets, Kuching ranked third behind first placed Hat Yai in Thailand and second placed Yogyakarta in Indonesia.

Listed behind Kuching were Siargao Island in the Philippines, Dalat in Vietnam, Narita in Japan, Goa in India, Taichung in Taiwan, and Busan in South Korea.

Agoda country director for Malaysia and Brunei Fabian Teja said as travellers seek to recharge before the final months of the year, Agoda’s latest ranking of the most affordable destinations across Asia is designed to help them make informed decisions and enjoy memorable experiences without breaking the bank.

“Whether it’s for a quick getaway or an extended vacation, these affordable destinations offer a variety of unique experiences that cater to all types of travellers.

“At Agoda, we hope this list encourages more people to discover new places and see more of the world for less,” he said.
