KUCHING (Aug 10): The ‘Agro Madani’ discounted food sale programme will continue to be organised throughout Kuching city to lessen the public’s burden on high cost of living, said Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong.

Yong said the programme held at the Sungai Apong residential area today was a joint initiative between the Bandar Kuching parliamentary office and Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama), where the public only has to pay RM10 for food items worth a total value of over RM30.

“A variety of food items are being offered and that includes red carrots, onions, radish, pumpkin, chicken and a five-kilogramme pack of rice,” she told reporters when met.

She said the pack of rice was sponsored by Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii’s office and hoped the federal government would increase the allocation of RM1,500 for Fama to organise this programme in the future.

A total of 300 sets of food items were sold within one hour.

Yong also pointed out the activity today reflected the federal government’s attention towards the public’s daily concerns.
