Aide slams Yong for ‘arrogant’ claim

KUCHING: Political Secretary to the Premier, Afiq Fikri Brahim, has hit out at Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong for calling Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg as “arrogant”.

In a statement, Afiq clarified that the Premier had merely stated that the cooperation between Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and federal government parties does not extend to Sarawak.

He urged Yong and other Sarawak PH leaders to be more careful with their claims, which he described as false and misleading.

“If the DAP assemblywoman and other PH leaders in Sarawak feel that they are being sarcastic, then they should reflect on the shortcomings that have led to their rejection by the people,” said Afiq.

He said that the Premier and GPS leadership had prioritised the integrity and stability of the federal government by putting aside differences and political interests.

“Unfortunately, there are still leaders from the Sarawak PH party who choose to remain on an old, arrogant path, rejecting the effectiveness of the Premier’s leadership as well as the policies, approaches, and initiatives of the Sarawak government that have proven to benefit the people,” he added.
