SIBU (Oct 11): The Mibura Internship Programme will be conducted in Sibu and is now open for participation, said Bawang Assan assemblyman Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh.

“This is a US training programme by a very big firm called Mibura (a global leader in edge computing and IT solutions). They want to help Sibu actually by introducing a course in computing and IT solutions.

“It now operates in 76 countries throughout the world, collaborating with industry giants like Cisco, Microsoft and Dell.

“Now, we want to bring this programme to Sibu through the help of Eric Wong, the programme coordinator.

“The training will be conducted in Sibu – hoping that Sibu can nurture a pool of computing and IT solutions experts in time to come. As a YB (elected representative) of Bawang Assan, I want to bring in this course,” Soon Koh told a press conference here yesterday.

Eric Wong is the general manager of Mibura and is Soon Koh’s nephew, Soon Koh informed that participants will have free access to the training.

“Meaning, not only that it is free, you will be paid allowance between RM1,000 and RM1,200 per month for full-time internship, 40 hours per week, during the training duration,” he said, adding the internship duration is four months.

“Part-time participation can be arranged for those who are in full-time employment,” he added.

He said those who have successfully completed the training will be awarded a certificate.

“This is very good for Sibu and perhaps, to start with 20 participants for the first batch.

“And if the response is very good, further training can be organised.

“If you are a graduate and yet to find a job, or even if you find your employment not satisfactory, you can join this full time.

“If you are working, then you can do part time in order to gain further credentials for yourself.”

Soon Koh also learned that this company with more than 300 offices worldwide has plans to set up an office here, where successful candidates will be considered for full-time employment.

On the criteria to join the internship programme, he said Computer Science and business-related graduates can apply.

“It is open to all and there is no age limit – preferably fresh graduates.”

He said upon receipt of application, successful applicants will be notified for an interview via Zoom platform.

Eric said this will be a yearly-based programme, and in the USA, one will need to pay USD600 to join the course.

“But here, it is free access besides receiving monthly allowance during the training period.”

Interested graduates can submit their resume to PDP Bawang Assan office, Wawasan 9A, Lot 1598 S/L 1, No. 46, 96000 Sibu, attention to Eric Wong (012-886 9566) or Jenny Tiong (012-875 9281) on or before the closing date on Oct 31.
