KUCHING (Oct 1): Young students are encouraged to apply the grant under Sarawak Research Development Council (SRDC) for their research initiatives.

In making this call, Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Sarawak Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee also calls upon school principals to support their students’ applications for this special funding, designed to promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)-related activities at school level.

“Under our SRDC, we have some special funds for the students to do some sort of research.

“To do the motor race is not only to design, but in terms of technology, that also means a lot of research that students need to undergo,” he said that at the closing ceremony for the state-level ‘F1 in Schools 2024’ programme, held at Farley Kuching today.

Adding on, Dr Annuar expressed his hope that the students would create something that could be commercialised in the future.

On ‘F1 in Schools 2024’, the state deputy minister described it as ‘a programme meant not only to spark the STEM interest in students, but also to increase their participation in the field.

“We need a lot of engineers as they are important for the development of the country.

“Of course, other professions are also important, but in terms of innovation and technology, we need more engineers in the country,” he pointed out.

Meanwhile, the Sarawak championship title of the ‘F1 in Schools 2024’ went to Prime Racing from SMK Penrissen, while Rhino Kenyalang Racing from SMK St Joseph and Excelsis Deo from SMK Penrissen took second and third place, respectively.
