KUCHING: The Sarawak Artists Society (SAS) Annual Art Exhibition displays artwork to promote the uniqueness of Sarawakian culture.

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, said the exhibition serves as a platform for artistic expression while highlighting Sarawak’s fascinating cultural landscapes.

“The Sarawak Cultural Landscape in Spectrum is a wonderful theme to showcase what Sarawak has to offer, with the values to pass down to our younger generation.

“We want to promote, preserve definitely to ensure it will continue,” he said in his speech during the launching of the art exhibition at La Promenade Exhibition Hall yesterday (Oct 16).

He added that the Sarawak government highly values the efforts of the art community to promote local culture in their own way.

“The exhibition visitors will have the opportunity to view various paintings and artworks representing Sarawak, which is incredibly impressive.

“It’s not just contemporary art but also a showcase of Sarawak’s cultural aspects, which differentiate us from others,” he said.

Additionally, he said the exhibition plays an essential role in gathering local artists to showcase their artwork while encouraging young artists to get involved.

“These young artists can come in to learn and share with seasoned artists, allowing for new ideas to emerge,” he stated.
