THE upgrading of Jalan Oya in Sibu into a dual-carriageway is delayed, causing frustration among motorists.

Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng said he would check with the Land and Survey Department on reasons for the delay.

“It was supposed to have been completed next month, but it appears to be behind schedule,” he said during a ceremony to help consumers to exchange their gas cylinders.

When asked about the difficulty faced by those wanting to exchange their cylinders, Chieng said more dealers have been appointed.

The exchange followed an announcement by state Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi that the Sarawak government had decided not to renew the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) distribution licence of MyGaz.

With the non-renewal, Petros Niaga now controls 100% of the LPG market.

Chieng said he had received many complaints, especially from senior citizens, that it was not easy for them to exchange their old yellow cylinders with the new red ones, which led him to organise the event.
