SARIKEI: The Sarikei Buddhist Orthodox Association has revealed its awe-inspiring new dragon in anticipation of the forthcoming Chinese New Year celebration.
Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii graced the occasion for the traditional eye-dotting ceremony at the association’s premises last night (Jan 23).
Huang, who serves as the Sarikei Member of Parliament and Repok assemblyman, was proud to be associated with the eye-dotting ceremony for the association’s impressive new dragon.
Using a specially crafted red ink, known as ‘zhu-sah,’ Huang dotted the dragon’s eyes. Chinese tradition or belief has it that the sacred eye-dotting ceremony endows the dragon with the power to bring protection, good fortune, health, and prosperity.
Association chairman Pemanca Chan Phan Chan thanked Huang for his continuous support in advancing the development of the religion and allocating resources for the enhancement of the association’s facilities.
