KUCHING (Aug 10): Bank Islam will expand its i-Tekad programme in Sarawak by increasing the number of participants and business sectors involved, said Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd Group chief executive officer Dato Mohd Muazzam Mohamed.

He said this follows a memorandum of understanding previously sealed between the bank and the Sarawak Islamic Council.

“This programme includes training and business guidance services for participants, especially the asnaf and B40 groups, to increase their income through entrepreneurship and business ventures,” he told reporters after paying a courtesy call on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on Friday, according to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report.

He said through the programme, Bank Islam aims to help participants increase their potential and generate higher income to improve their financial position.

He added the bank is establishing a business training hub in Sarawak to provide continued support for i-Tekad participants, and the hub will be assisted by appointed business coaches to provide ongoing guidance and mentorship for participants.

During the courtesy visit, Abang Johari witnessed the handover of zakat contributions amounting to RM760,000 from Bank Islam to the Sarawak Islamic Council, received by its president Datuk Misnu Taha.
