KUCHING, July 8: The Batang Lupar–Lingga road project has reached a significant milestone, with physical progress now at 79.19 per cent and completion expected by May or June next year.
Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development (Infrastructure Development) Datuk Aidel Lariwoo said the project was experiencing a minor delay of about six per cent, but this had not affected its overall implementation, which remains on track.
He said the project has entered its final implementation phase, with the remaining works mainly involving soil stabilisation before road construction resumes.
“Our expectation is for the project to be completed next year, around the middle of the year or earlier, depending on the settlement process.
“It is targeted for completion in May or June. However, as mentioned earlier, water bags are being used as a surcharge medium. Once the settlement rate has stabilised, they can be removed earlier.
“This means that if the process can be completed sooner, the project can also be delivered ahead of schedule,” he said in a report by TVS.
Aidel highlighted this after conducting a site visit to Package B1 of the Sebuyau–Lingga road construction project today.
He added that the RM494 million project is fully funded by the Sarawak government and is being implemented within the original approved allocation, with no additional costs involved.
The Batang Lupar–Lingga road project is part of Sarawak’s Second Trunk Road and Sarawak Coastal Road network, aimed at improving connectivity between communities in the southern region of the state.
Upon completion, the road is expected to reduce travel time for residents in Sri Aman, Betong and surrounding areas travelling to Samarahan and Kuching, while supporting economic growth and regional development.
Aidel expressed confidence that the project would be completed as scheduled based on its current progress, further enhancing Sarawak’s infrastructure network and contributing to long-term socioeconomic development. — DayakDaily
