SIBU (July 13): Bawang Assan assemblyman Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh has urged landowners here to speak out their problems to the Land and Survey Department with regards to the land premium renewal and classification of their land.

“What are the criteria for reclassification, land premiums and all those related to the land issue – can bring them up,” he told landowners during a dialogue session with the Land and Survey Department here today.

The dialogue session was organised by Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Bawang Assan and Dudong divisions aimed at clearing the doubts of landowners over land premium renewal and classification of their land.

Wong, who is PDP senior vice-president, said there were also land premium issues in the shipyard zone on lease rental which had increased several folds lately.

“Some of the landowners only pay RM200 per acre for land lease renewal while adjacent areas have to pay RM2,500 per acre. These are some of the problems the people encountered now,” he said.

He said he also received complaints from the landowners on the types of leased land in the same district that are not accessible and do not have sufficient infrastructure.

Adding to that, he said many landowners may not be aware that the land lease rent has not been reviewed for 29 years.

Also present during the dialogue session were PDP Dudong chairman Datuk Teo Boon Siew, Political Secretary to the Premier Joshua Ting, Land and Survey senior valuer Serimah Bol, and Kapitan Wong Hua.
