SIBU (Feb 14): The Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) has received the 2025 Low Carbon City Award under the Low Carbon Cities 2030 Challenge (LCC2030C) programme by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES).
The award, implemented by the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC), was presented by the minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup to BDA deputy general manager Abdul Rahim Abdullah at a ceremony held at the Hilton Kuala Lumpur on Friday.
BDA received the ‘Diamond’ recognition for the zone category under Bintulu Green City.
Awards in the partner category were also conferred to BDA in collaboration with Universiti Putra Malaysia Sarawak (UPMS), Pejabat Perkhidmatan Perbandaran (PERBINDA), and Hospital Bintulu.
A BDA spokesperson said the recognition reflected the authority’s continuous commitment, together with its strategic partners, to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving energy efficiency and strengthening carbon sequestration through sustainable urban development.
“This success is the result of close collaboration among government agencies, educational institutions and healthcare facilities in realising Bintulu’s aspiration to become a low carbon city by 2030,” said the spokesperson in a statement.
BDA also expressed appreciation to all parties involved, adding that the award should spur further green and sustainable initiatives for the well-being of the Bintulu community and long-term environmental sustainability.
