KUCHING (July 20): Following a series of successful book drives across Sarawak, Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) continues to contribute.

This time, it has donated 1,000 books to SK Batu Bungan in Mulu, near Miri.

The contribution was part of ‘Books Build Legacy’, BESarawak’s state-level initiative, aimed at bridging the gap in educational resources and also empowering the young minds in rural Sarawak.

The handing-over yesterday also signified the importance of community development and transformative impact of accessible materials on young learners, said the group in a statement.

BESarawak chief executive officer Amelia Roziman remarked: “The donations to SK Batu Bungan were collected from two events this year: the ‘Connect. Play. Donate.’ industry gathering in Kuching, and the Sarawak Invitational Interteam Pickleball Challenge 2024 in Miri.

“There’s good progress with this programme, which is hopefully inspiring to other organisations looking to make a difference.”

SK Batu Bungan pupils affairs senior assistant Michelle Lee, said: “With only a population of less than 70 pupils, these books will become an important part of their educational journey. We can expect more pupils to take up reading as a new hobby in and outside school.

“The teachers are always looking to enhance the pupils’ learning experiences and academic growth. We appreciate the business events community for sharing their generosity with the pupils.”

BESarawak invites more organisations across all industries to donate to ‘Books Build Legacy’.
