BINTULU: The use of digital applications and social media is the best platform to promote cultural heritage and customs, thus helping to promote the tourism industry in Sarawak.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said this is because marketing or promotions through social media is now seen as more effective in sharing information and communications globally related to tourism.

He said that nowadays the use of social media such as Tiktok, Facebook, Instagram and Youtube is becoming more popular among the general public, therefore, the public especially tourism operators needed to be smart in using this platform to market their tourism products.

“It is one of the ways for us to promote many of our country’s customs, cultural heritage, which have been presented to us, our exhibition to our guests, to some extent help us promote the tourism industry,” he said.

He said this when speaking at the Bintulu Development Board (BDA) Gawai Dayak Open House 2024, at Rumah Raymond Plen, Sungai Gelam, Ulu Sebauh, on Saturday.

In the meantime, Nanta said the Dayak Gawai festival is a symbol of unity and closeness between the multi-racial communities in Sarawak.

“This is in line with the theme of “Segulai Sejalai” which means working together in building unity and oneness among Malaysians regardless of background, race and religion.

“We continue to strive and pray that this unity continues to bring harmony to the people, which is a pillar of the progress of the nation.

Also present were BDA deputy chairman Datuk Haidar Khan Asghar Khan and BDA general manager Datuk Muhamad Yakup Kari.
