KUCHING: The Bintawa fishery jetty will cease full operations by the end of the year, says Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM) chairman Muhammad Faiz Fadzil.

He explained that this decision aims to prioritise the full utilisation of the Tanjung Bako fishery port.

“At the same time, there are few privatised fishery ports in Samarahan. The plan is to engage with these operators and encourage them to cease operations, redirecting their focus to the fishery port in Tanjung Bako.

“We need to engage with them properly because that jetty belongs to them,” he told the media this after a site visit to LKIM’s fishing port in Tanjung Bako here today (Dec 15).

Muhammad Faiz highlighted the excellent facilities at the Tanjung Bako port, providing significant accommodation for fishermen to land their catch.

Addressing concerns about fish supply, he urged suppliers to be considerate when deciding to increase the price of fish per kilogramme.

“We are now facing the issue of a high cost of living, and not everyone can afford to buy fish. Do not take advantage of issues like this, and most importantly, consider consumers.

“For instance, during the monsoon season, do not use this as a reason to increase prices. Have some consideration and concern towards the consumers.”
