BINTULU (July 27): Police today have arrested the main suspect believed to be involved in the death of a 80-year-old woman at Kampung Dato.

Bintulu police chief Supt Nixon Joshua Ali said the suspect, who is the adopted grandson of the victim, was arrested at a hotel in Taman Sri Dagang by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Bintulu Police Headquarters at 12.30pm.

“Through our investigation, we successfully arrested the 29-year-old man. He is unemployed and is the adopted grandson of the victim,” he said.

Nixon said following an interrogation, the suspect led the police team to a goldsmith shop here where the suspect had sold a broken necklace believed to be owned by the victim.

“The suspect was then detained to assist the investigation, while the evidence was seized for further investigation,” he said.

The case will be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, he added.
