Kong hands over essential items to representatives from the affected families.

BINTULU (Sept 14): The fire that devastated the 23-door Rumah Nura Buling longhouse in Sungai Teban, Labang here has drawn significant attention from various parties, including Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

The Bintulu MP’s special officer Steven Kong, along with Progressive Democratic Party’s (PDP) Supreme Council member Saging Layang, visited the site yesterday to provide essential supplies to the affected victims.

Kong expressed his sympathy for the victims and hoped they would remain resilient during this challenging time.

“We are grateful to the many people who have come forward to help the victims,” he said.

He also expressed his appreciation to Tong Seng Huat (Bintulu) Sdn Bhd for donating rice and white sugar, which provided much-needed assistance to the victims.

“I also want to commend all the rescue units for their swift actions. This includes the police, utility company, Fire and Rescue Department and others who immediately provided support and assistance,” Kong said.

He also mentioned the Welfare Department, after recording detailed information about the victims, promptly provided emergency supplies and continued to offer further assistance.

“I thank all the rescue parties and companies that supported the victims. The cooperation and efforts from everyone provided timely assistance to the victims and I hope the affected families can rebuild their homes as soon as possible,” he said.

In the incident on Sept 12, some 350 residents lost their home after a block of the longhouse, housing 23 doors, was completely destroyed in a fire. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
