BINTULU (July 20): The three venues in Bintulu are ready for some 700 athletes who will arrive to compete in the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma) next month.
The town will be playing host to the three sports of muaythai, sepak takraw and football, said Deputy State Secretary and CEO of Sukma Sarawak 2024, Datu Hii Chang Kee, who was in town to check on the facilities with senior divisional and sports officials today.
Fans can catch muaythai action at Naim Street Mall Paragon from Aug 17-20 with 18 gold medals up for grabs.
Eight gold medals are at stake in sepak takraw at Muhibah Stadium. Melaka, Penang and Kedah will play in the preliminary matches for football at Bintulu Stadium from Aug 12 to 16. The later stages and final will be in Mukah.
“We are grateful and thankful to the National Sports Council (MSN) for finally deciding to include the women’s team for the sepak takraw event, even though it was initially almost cancelled due to a lack of participating states. Thus, we still have 488 events in this Sukma,” Hii said.
Also present were Ministry of Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development deputy permanent secretary Nur Alina Abdullah @ Colliner Gohe, Deputy Resident of Bintulu Abang Zainuddin Abang Turkey and Sarawak Sports Corporation CEO Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan.
