Bintulu workers’ quarters units razed in early morning blaze

BINTULU (Oct 16): Seven units of workers’ quarters at Jalan Sungai Nyigu here were destroyed in a fire early this morning.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said all the occupants were safely evacuated and no injuries were recorded.

Nineteen firefighters from the Bintulu and Kidurong fire stations were despatched to fight the blaze after receiving a distress call at 4.22am.

They arrived at the scene within six minutes.

They deployed a 1,400-foot relay pumping line with two nozzles, using water from their fire engines.

The firefighters managed to control the blaze by 5.19am and the operation ended at 7.28am.

The cause of the fire and total value of damages are still under investigation.
