KUCHING: The body of 15-year-old Mohammad Faqrul Zaimi, who was fatally attacked by a crocodile in the Samariang Aman river was discovered with missing limbs this morning (Dec 24).
A spokesperson for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Petra Jaya station discovered the body afloat at around 11 am, approximately two kilometres from the site of the crocodile attack.
It was reported that the victim’s legs and right hand were missing, and the neck was broken.
Following the identification of the victim’s body by his family, the body was taken to the hospital for further procedures.
The search and rescue (SAR) operation concluded at 12.45 pm.
During the second day of the SAR operation, a team comprising five fully armed Marine Police officers and a fireman, using a rescue boat, conducted patrols downstream.
The Marine Police’s Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) unit also conducted aerial surveys using a drone from the Marine Police Operations Base (PKOB).
On Saturday, Mohammad Faqrul fell victim to a crocodile attack in the Semariang Aman river while fishing with three of his friends.
According to one of the victim’s friends, they all entered the river when their net got entangled.
The victim, who was at the forefront, was attacked by a crocodile and dragged upstream.
This incident marks the third crocodile attack in Sarawak in 2023.
